Happy Tales

Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...

Harley's Brave Journey   Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Ramsey...NY

This is from Diane C. who welcomed Ramsey into their home in May 2012! Also pictured here is Carmel, also adopted through AADR in mid-2012 --- Ramsey was fostered in Buffalo,NY with Chris Bly and he came to his for ever home in May 2012. He fits in very well with our 2 rescue cats.... Yes a 3 ring circus! He loves to lay on the sun on our deck and play in the mud and romp in the snow... And loves long walks... His hair is so long that he has dread locks on his back end. So cute... He's hoarding the footballs from Super Bowl, his and Carmel's. We just love him.... He's the Ram-Man!

Raccine...NY

Raccine is doing well. She has a new name – Nora – in honor of the woman who first found her in the cold barn where she lived for the first 16 months of her life. She is learning how to be a happy dog. She is still somewhat skittish, but she loves to be held, loves to hang out on the couch, and loves her 2 square meals a day. She is still underweight but she is putting on the ounces! I have another dachshund – Silas. He is being a good and loving big brother. We had a milestone just the other day. Silas has been trying to get Nora to play, and Nora had no idea what playing is. She just looked at Silas with a “huh?” expression. On Sunday, all of a sudden Nora started romping around with Silas. And when he decided he had enough, she barked at him to continue – her first bark. I can truly say that every day she gets more comfortable, seems happier, and feels more secure. Last week we had temperatures that dipped to 5 degrees, and I can’t help but think that she would have died if she were still in that barn. Thanks to AADR she has a new, safe life. I’ve attached a picture of Nora and another shot of Nora and Silas. Thanks again for all the good work you do. Kristin

Reids Molly...OH

This is our Molly! She has been " OUR MOLLY" for 17 days now..We first met Molly on a transport back in Dec. We were so excited to be a part of getting this sweet little face to her forever home. We became very attached to Molly during this transport and found ourselves very jealous of her new family. We knew they were getting a true gem. At one point my husband and I joked about dog knapping..isnt that terrible..LOL. We watched for every update on the days leading up to the transport and during. Molly was described and being very shy and scared. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. AS soon as we picked up Molly she rolled over for a belly rub and covered me in some of the stinkiest doggie kisses I have ever had. ( IT WAS TERRIBLE) But I was so happy she was not scared I welcomed each stinky kiss and rubbed her belly for the next 3 hours. By the time the hand off came, I just felt sick.. I knew she was going to get her forever home, but I so wanted it to be me. At one point she even tried to get back in my car ( punch to the gut). When we returned home later that evening, I again checked the updates to make sure Molly made it home. She had! But it said " Thank you for all of your help getting Molly to her new foster home". I clearly missed something! Silly as it sounds I started crying and in a matter of seconds was on the phone putting my application in to bring her home. 3 weeks later we did. It was the happiest 5 hour drive. During our 3 weeks apart we learned that Molly was rescued 3 years ago from a Puppy Mill and adopted. My first question of course was WHY would someone adopt her and then send her back? She had to have terrible behavioral issues. No, not the case. She was sent back because she was still having accidents in the house. ( UH..? Dachshund?) We also learned that in those 3 years Molly was never vetted properly..her shots were behind, and worst of all..her teeth. Before we could pick Molly up she had to have surgery to have 9 teeth removed. Gee...do you think that is why her breath was so horrible? I am happy to report that today Molly's bad breath is gone! She has brought so much joy to this family, but most of all me. She is my buddy and goes with me just about everywhere I go. She sleeps in my bed and insists on having her belly rubbed multiple times a day..we love it! Her crate is still in the back of my mini van from the day we picked her up. It has never been used here and she is doing wonderful going out to use the potty. Yes, she has had accidents but ya know what? Its the rain! She will not go out if it is wet.. I am thinking Molly needs a raincoat and some snazzy boots! Thank you A.A.D.R for everything you do and for our Molly..we could not imagine our home without her.

Romeo....SC
Romeo....SC

Romeo just had his first birthday and has already had a lot on his little plate! Romeo was given up by a breeder who, although loving him very much, had to surrender him. When he came into rescue, he was very scared of people...especially men. We knew that he needed a very special home...a mommy who could spend lots of individual attention with him and show him it was ok not to be afraid. Thanks to Sheryl, Romeo has that special home. Now he can live life being loved and never scared again!

RUBY4

Little Bit (formerly named Ruby) came from a puppy mill and knew nothing but fear. She did not know how to show emotion (a tail wag, physical touch, a kiss, a bark) and she felt safest in the dark and hidden. She exhibited behavorial issues such as running in circles and extreme fear of door ways. many people would think it was too late for Little bit..but not AADR and not the Chambers family. After 4 months in foster care and after 15 applications, Little Bit found her forever home with the Chambers and now it has been 2 years and she has come a long, long way. Here is their most recent update: I was looking through some photos of our Doxies and it reminded me that it is almost the 2 year anniversary of our adoption of Lil Bit. That was also our first experience in Dachshund rescue. How blessed we are to have gotten Lil Bit and how blessed she was to have you as a foster Mom after the horrible world she endured at the puppy mill. Our doxies bring us joy every day with their unique personalities. Each totally different in looks and behaviors, but filled with love they show us. Lil Bit is happiest when Jody and I are both todether sitting on the sofa or sitting up in Bed. She scoots right in beside us and feels so secure. She now engages with Gus and Rudi in the back yard. She loves treats and can't wait to travel. She and Rudy won first prize in the PetSmart Halloween costume contest. She had her photo posted there for two weeks. I include a photo of Gus in all of my training events, and have become the "Dachshund" lady. It amazes me how many people come up to me and tell me their dachshund stories, and ask about our doxies as if they are celebrities. I know I sound repetitive, but I can't thank you enough for sharing your home with Lil Bit and being the person that helped us become supporters of dachshund rescue.. LB means so much to us. She is very attached to Gus and tries to mimick some of the playful behavior she sees Rudi doing. We are planning to get their photos with Santa soon, and I will send you a digital copy. Happy Thanksgiving from Debbie, Jody, Gus, Lil Bit and Rudi Roo,
