Let me just say, Romeo lives up to his name! This sweet boy is handsome and can bat his eyelashes to make any girl's heart melt! He doesn't have a mean bone in his body and when you hold him, he just melts right into you. He was given up by a breeder who took very good care of her dachshunds but had to part with some of them.

Although Romeo has only been in foster care for a short time, I already know that he is quite the character! Although he is timid at first, he quickly warms up and loves to play. He also loves to follow his foster mom around and be her little shadow.

Romeo really enjoys having free roam to sun bathe in the backyard and to run around so a fenced yard would be best. He walks well on a leash but loves his yard! Although Romeo loves ALL dogs and would love to go to home with fur buddy, I also think he would do ok as an only dog as long as he wasn't left alone for long periods of time and his person spent lots of time with him. He is still a puppy and needs individual attention and nurturing. Since he is a quite little boy, he would do best with another dog who is friendly and laid back and will allow Romeo to continue to come of his shell. Romeo also has never had much interaction with men so he is still unsure of them. He LOVES his foster mom and is quickly warming up to his foster dad as well, but will need a home with at least one woman to show him the way. He is still young so this should go away as he matures.

He walks great on a leash. He will walk right beside you or right behind you and never tugs. When something happens that scares him (i.e. walking into a vet office or a loud truck driving by), Romeo will stand up on his hind legs right away to be picked up and when you do, he snuggles right up to you! Its very sweet and it lets you know that you are the only person in the world to him!!

Romeo has been a polite guest at our house and aims to please to his person. He does great in his crate and LOVES to snuggle on your lap or next to you. When his foster mom sits down to read a book or work on the computer, he is always right there next to her napping or snuggling. What a loyal companion!

Thankfully, Romeo has found rescue early in life and  has many years to be a loyal and loving family member. Please won't you consider inviting Romeo into your home so that he will only know happiness in the future?

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about Romeo....SC

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
