WHERE LOCATED Greenville, SC

Ruby is a chocolate and tan miniature dachshund with the prettiest face and eyes. Her eyes seem to say LOVE ME! She is AKC registered and has perfect markings for a chocolate. However, her papers will not be provided. She came from a breeder who was no longer able to keep her dogs and surrendered them to All American Dachshund Rescue. Ruby is 4 years old and has had litters, but she has managed to keep her girlish figure and looks great at 11 pounds. As is common with breeder dogs, Ruby is very timid and unsure of her surroundings. However, she also has one of the sweetest personalities; she’s a true cuddle bug! With lots of love and patience, Ruby will make a wonderful and special addition to the right family. When Ruby first arrived in her foster home, she was frightened of her foster mom. She was happy to hide in her crate because that is where she felt secure. After a couple of weeks, she has made great progress and has now claimed her spot on the couch. She now nudges her foster mom for some snuggles. Ruby is very alert and smart. She is has started to explore the house with my other dogs. Ruby sometimes sits at her foster mom’s feet waiting for attention. She truly is a sweet girl. Ruby NEEDS a quiet home with a regular routine. Ruby would do best in a home where she wouldn't be left alone for long. Ruby will let her foster dad pet her, but she is still unsure of him, so her forever home should include a female to care for her. Ruby has been exposed to children and should do well with children above the age of 4 as long as they are very gentle with her and know how to handle a Dachshund. She has not been tested with cats. She gets along fine with the other Dachshunds and a 40 pound Sheltie in her foster home, but dose keep her distance from the Sheltie. Ruby would do well with another easy going dog so that she has the freedom to open up and be herself. She has not had one potty accident in my house since she has been in foster care. She is kept on a strict potty routine because she does not yet ask to go out on her own. Ruby is working on her leash training, but needs a fenced in yard for her own safety and well being. She rarely barks and should go to a family that has the time, patience, and dedication to continue boosting her confidence. Ruby has so much to offer and has a chance to discover so many new things! Will you give Ruby a chance and show her how wonderful a Dachshund’s life can be? THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about RUBY4

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
