Happy Tales
Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...
Harley's Brave Journey Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Tess...AL
Tess is our girl! She was our first adoption through AADR (we have since added Basil as well). She is a very loving and happy go-lucky girl! While her previous life story was a little sad, this girl is a bundle of energy and love. At night, she dives under the covers and is happy there until morning (we call her sleeping beauty). She loves to meet new people and dogs. One of her greatest joys in life is chasing squirrels in our backyard! We adopted Tess when our Rolo was ill and we all hoped she would be able to encourage him a little in his recovery. Sadly, Rolo's Cushings was caused by an overly aggressive tumor that even with radiation claimed his life within six months. Rolo will always be our gateway doxie -- it was he that exposed us to this wonderful breed and their hearts and quirky humor! Tess is so special and gives us joy each and every day. We are so thankful for AADR rescuing this little girl and letting us be her forever home!
Asher...ME
Asher's foster mom got this picture from his forever home! Asher was adopted in March 2011.
Hans...MO
Hans is doing fine. I am trying to attach a photo of him but I am not having much luck. I will have to do that at a later date.
Hans seems to fit in very well at our house. He has really become attached to our kids and sleeps on our older daughter's bed. He had a great time in the snow this morning. He got on the scent of a rabbit in the back yard and it went through the fence and got away. I couldn't get him to come in the house for anything and finally had to put my boots on and go get him. He didn't even want to come in for breakfast, which is really unusual for him. He loves to eat and barks at us if he thinks it is time for a meal. He and our other dog tried to trick my husband into feeding them a second meal the other night after I had fed them and left the house. Luckily my husband called and checked. We had fallen for this trick before with our other dog.
Hans is really playful. He and our older dog are getting along great. There was some jealousy at first, but they are getting along great now. We lost our old golden retriever about a year ago and our dachshund was very lonely for her. She is now playing with her toys again now that Hans is here.
We are all amazed that anyone would want to part with Hans. He is such a sweet dog. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about getting an older dog since we had always started with puppies in the past, but this has worked out very well. I don't think our older dog could have put up with the energy of a puppy and it was so nice not to have to housebreak a dog. His personality seems to fit right in with all of ours and he is now a member of our family. He is really happy here and acts as if this has always been his home.
If you have any questions, let me know. I will try to send that picture to you later after someone helps me with it. I always seem to have trouble attaching something to an e-mail.
Thanks,
Amy N.
Bambino...NY
Bambino is now Eli and he is doing wonderful. Diane was right on the money with his personality and his temperament. He gets along wonderful with our lab. She is mothering him and really sets him straight on "doggie rules". His house training is going pretty well, although outside is pretty cold right now so we are still using the pee pads.
Thanks for checking in. We just absolutely love him! I will send you some pics!

Raccine...NY
Raccine is doing well. She has a new name – Nora – in honor of the woman who first found her in the cold barn where she lived for the first 16 months of her life.
She is learning how to be a happy dog. She is still somewhat skittish, but she loves to be held, loves to hang out on the couch, and loves her 2 square meals a day. She is still underweight but she is putting on the ounces!
I have another dachshund – Silas. He is being a good and loving big brother. We had a milestone just the other day. Silas has been trying to get Nora to play, and Nora had no idea what playing is. She just looked at Silas with a “huh?” expression. On Sunday, all of a sudden Nora started romping around with Silas. And when he decided he had enough, she barked at him to continue – her first bark.
I can truly say that every day she gets more comfortable, seems happier, and feels more secure. Last week we had temperatures that dipped to 5 degrees, and I can’t help but think that she would have died if she were still in that barn. Thanks to AADR she has a new, safe life.
I’ve attached a picture of Nora and another shot of Nora and Silas.
Thanks again for all the good work you do.
Kristin
