BIO: Asher is one of the sweetest dachshunds I have ever met. He was surrendered by a family that was going to have a new baby and they decided they no longer had time for him. I am not sure of his full history, but he is very timid. I think deep inside he just wants to feel secure and to be loved. He has already responded to us in just the first week that he has been with us. He gets along well with my 2 dogs (a dachshund and a miniature pinscher). They have been helping him with feeling more confident. He LOVES to play fetch. He has the best little personality and would be a wonderful addition to a family. He would love having a fenced in yard! He is learning to walk well on a leash and he is doing awesome with housebreaking. His favorite place to be is sitting next to you with his head on your lap. He loves sleeping under blankets too! He is so kind and gentle. He also is not much of a barker, which is rare for dachshunds! I just can’t say enough of HOW SWEET HE IS!!!

More about Asher...ME
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
