Happy Tales

Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...

Harley's Brave Journey   Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Misty #3...OH
Misty #3...OH

I want you to know that Misty is doing well and has adapted well to our home. She is active, and is no longer afraid of us. She wags her tail and will allow us to pet her. She is still shy when out comes to new people, though, but she is slowly getting better. She is very spoiled. I will try to send pictures when i can. I am out of town for work right now, but will be home soon. Thank you and AADR for all that you do for these amazing dogs. Misty has been a true blessing to my wife and I, and it was all possible through the work of AADR. Thank you again!!

Griffey...WI

Griffey is adjusting really well. We have bonded nicely, he is definitely a momma's boy. I love how he looks up at me with his big brown eyes. He enjoys sleeping in the big bed with me and burrows in making himself comfortable. He his very funny when it is time for meals he gets so excited he jumps up and down. I feed him Fromm an all natural food to keep his boyish figure. He has a couple good walks a day and does well while I am at work. He trots along like he owns the neighborhood and is very well coordinated in his new harness, collar and leash. He has a stuffed squeaky hotdog that we play chase with. But he is also always looking for the chipmunks and bunnies in the backyard. He definitely is a people dog. All my neighbors love him. He is curious about other dogs but seems unsure about interacting and so does growl & bark. We are currently attending dog training classes to do some socialization. My boy cat Toby and he get along very well and the cat even gives him kisses. My girl is more skiddish but she was like that with my other dog too. Thanks for checking in. Hope you enjoy the pictures I am sending. LyAnne

Greta Garbo...DC

Greta Garbo checking in. Life is great since I found my forever home up in DC. I’ve quickly settled into my urban neighborhood near the waterfront. It’s filled with squirrels, hidden paths and a soon to open dog park!!!! I love going on my daily walks. I’m always running into other dogs and meeting friendly people who want to pet me. I get so excited to smell everything that sometimes I don’t pay attention to mom, but I’m getting better. Speaking of my mom, she is the best! I’ve grown very attached to her and must keep her in my line of sight pretty much all the time. I lavish her with lots of kisses, she seems to like that. Living in a city is quite a change for this country girl but I’m loving it. We are always out and about. My first weekend I went to a vineyard with my new doxie buddy Bentley. He’s a nice old fellow, who lets me have my way – what can I say, I’m a bit of a diva! A couple of weeks ago I went on my first plane ride to visit my new extended family in Atlanta. I did pretty good for having to put up with being in a dog carrier for the flight. Next time mom says we’ll fly direct! Looking forward to cooler weather this fall so mom and I can do more urban exploring. She keeps telling me about this giant grassy area called “the National Mall” where we can run and play and have a picnic. Sounds good to me, especially the picnic part – I’ll make sure she pacts my favorite treats! All the best! Greta Garbo

Sadie #2...FL

We are all doing wonderful!!! Our little Sadie lady is very happy in her new home and is getting along great here with all her new friends. She loves playing, cuddling, and going on walks. Here are a few pictures of Sadie in the garden she likes to hide and jump out and then they all chase each other. It has been so much fun. She has been getting lots of exercise!!! We feel so blessed to have Sadie!!! Thank you so much!!!

Sparky...NY

I've been meaning to email with an update on Sparky. He is doing very well and we love him. The vet proclaimed him perfect with a great personality. Then we loaded up on parasite and flea/tick prevention. She did say he should gain a little wait which he is quite happy to work on. He's gained about half a pound so far. He's learning to like riding in the car because we've taken him to the park a few times. He likes to play with his squeaky toys, hunt squirrels and worms in the back yard, and go for walks; but most of all he LOVES to be snoozing on a lap. I think he'd be happiest if his feet never touched the ground. At night he sleeps in his dog bed until we get up. Then he gallops around the house in anticipation of his morning meal, which is pretty much gone before it hits the bowl. After a trip out for business he snoozes on my lap while a drink my coffee. The only problem I'm having is getting to work on time. :) He has met a few dogs and human neighbors and friends. He climbs right into everyone's lap. He's pretty friendly with dogs especially little dogs. Our neighbors across the street have two dachshunds so they ran right over to meet him. Which leads me to the question that I have. We are already thinking about getting another dachshund and could use some advice on the best timing. We've only ever had one dog at a time. Sparky seems to be quite at home with us already but I'm not sure if it's too soon to introduce a new dog. On the other hand, we don't want him to get too used to all the attention if he'll have to then re-adjust to sharing attention. What do you think? It has been difficult to get good pictures of Sparky because he is so black. Here is one of him looking out the window where the sun is shining right on him. Denise
