Happy Tales
Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...
Harley's Brave Journey Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Poncho.....MI
I registered his chip last week and already received the name tag/ID# tag in the mail. So he's mine, mine, mine. You can't have him back, I say!
We all love him. My husband, Tim, calls him, "My boy!", the kids are pretty sure he likes them best, and even Luigi, our cat, is starting to lounge around near him. (Lui has been a spoiled, only fur family member for 7 yrs and is not quite sure why Poncio gets to go outside but he does not. Some jealousy but no fighting - yaaay!)
Poncio is doing very well with his outside time. He and I are keeping each other on a very good schedule and since he is very treat motivated, he is learning fast! It appears he knew some basic commands, which is nice for communication for all. (I'll never not be impressed that animals actually listen better if a person whispers to them. I wish all people would take that calm approach. But I digress - back to The Little Man!)
He quickly found HIS SPOT. He moved his brand new medium sized dog bed to a specific corner of the dining room and occupies it with ALL 11 lbs. of himself.
Yes, it's true, I now sleep with 2 men. The husband and the dog. Poncio is at ease enough now to burrow, which is good since males have that instinct.
We are working on crate training slowly...a pinch of time a little at a time. This little man has huge anxiety separation. With time, patience and more trust building, we hope he will be ok. Fortunately I'm in an amazing situation to be home more than not, which we hope helps his transition.
We went to the vet for a follow up the week after adoption. All was basically well except a slight infection in one of his pads and lots of ear wax. He received an antibiotic shot for his pad so all red is back to healthy black.)
I would like to add - while I'm sure you all already know - Cherie was wonderful to work with and is a wonderfully loving Doxie foster.
Thanks again. Check in anytime.

Phoebe.....TN
Phoebe is doing great, she is so very sweet but for some reason won't give kisses, but she puts her paws on our chests while sitting on our laps and puts her face in ours , it's so cute, she settled in just fine with our little Bella , and they eat side by side in their bowls, it's so cute, and she plays well in the back yard with Bella as well and tries to catch the lizards, I'll send ya some photos, Donna
We got this photo of Phoebe (red) hanging out with her new sister Annabelle (black and tan)!
Pablo....IA
"Pablo" (which he did not answer to so we renamed him Siegfried and call him "Siegi"). Is a really great dog and companion. Having had previous experience with rescues we were prepared for issues but as yet none have surfaced. He loves his back yard where he can chase squirrels up our big oak tree. He loves to go on rides in the car when I am out running errands. Perfectly housetrained and great on the leash - when on a walk he likes to move out which helps out my cardio exercise. What's not to like? I think that he may have had problems in the past with toys and hands. Maybe another dog wouldn't let him play with his toys - but he is starting to pick up and chew on some of the toys we have for him. All the other dogs I have had liked to "mouth" our hands a little in play. He acts like he might like to try but he has a strange displacement action craning his neck and yawning when he seems tempted to do this. He may have bitten in the past and been punished which produced this but he has shown no aggressive behavior whatsoever. He loves to sit on our laps or lie between my wife and I on the couch in the evenings when we are relaxing. My sister and her husband were here visiting Easter Sunday and he was just great with them. We have a couple of large dogs across the fence in our back yard that bark at him but he just ignores them. A little Yorkie lives to our east and he and she run up and down their respective sides of the fence together.
We have seen him do something which in the past we have only seen in cartoons. We had a couple of nylabones that belonged to a previous dog. When he found each one in the toybox he demanded to go outside where he promptly buried the bone. Dug a hole, dropped in the bone and covered it completely so it could not be seen. To say this surprised us would be an understatement. Not even a real bone, but he absolutely insisted on burying them. Obviously he had a good time doing this and we may have to buy a nylabone from time to time for him to bury. My sister and her husband got to see him bury the second one. They were quite entertained.
I think you can tell that we have fallen in love with this little guy and he certainly warmed up quickly to us.
Thanks again for making it possible for us to adopt this great little dog!

Priscilla....AL
Ella (formerly Priscilla) is doing GREAT! Absolutely no problems. She has certainly come out of her shell. The other dogs are getting used to her and she knows no fear. All of my clients want her!
