Happy Tales

Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...

Harley's Brave Journey   Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Flash...NH

From Flash's Forever Home: "OMG we love him to pieces! My other dachshund loves him too. He is just a love and so sweet and gentle. My vet says if I didn't tell him he had dachshund in him he wouldn't even suspect it! My brother wants to steal him too! Attached are a couple of pics of him and Heidi, my first rescue pup. She is a year and a half. She was my baby till Flash came along, now he is HER baby! She loves him, and they are inseparable. The last pic is hard to see, both pups are velcroed to me on the couch. best of all, they are both Mama"s babies, but he tend so be equally a Daddy's boy! Whenever I sit, they have to be attached to me. If not sitting, they are attached to each other. If Hubby is sitting he is in his lap! They run and chase each other in the yard, and play till they drop. We are so glad we have them both - and to think we said "no more dogs" when our last baby died a few years ago, and now we have 2! Thanks for checking in with me. I guess the fact that he thinks he owns us now means he is adjusting well! I hope all adoptions go this well! Thanks for my pup! Hope you have a great day also." Pam

Zoe..TN

An awesome picture of Zoe, an AADR Alum!! Her foster mom wrote: Just wanted to show the group that :Zoey is great even with my 3 y/o grandson! She's doing great!"

MOHAWK...TN
MOHAWK...TN

I don’t know how interested you are in keeping up with your former charges, but I just have to tell you that this little Mohawk I have had for a little over a year is the sweetest friend I have ever had. He’s so happy and friendly and he loves me to death. I really believe he has saved my life. He makes me get up in the morning; get out of the house and get a little exercise every day. He has me well trained so that he seldom does his business in the house. I think he must have had some training at sometime because he listens very well and does not try to run away. The biggest problem I have is that my daughter and one of my sons are arguing over who will get him if I can no longer keep him. They both love him. I have news for them. I am still going very strong at 90 years. I only wish I could take another to keep Mohawk company, but I think one doxie is enough for me at this point in life. Thank you so much for saving him and letting me adopt him. I don’t understand how anybody could have thrown him away. Mary Jane

Bailey 5...RI

This note from Bailey's foster mom with a picture from her new daddy: "I hope you are all having a good week. I wanted to share this picture with you! It is of Bailey, our foster girl, that was adopted last week. She is with her new sister, Reeses. Their dad, John, caught them sleeping on the same pillow last night! Have a great day! Mary"

CHAZ...VA

Chaz is doing great! He loves sleeping in the big bed, playing with his brother and sister, and snuggling. He will come up to me and put his nose against my leg when he wants a pat. He was a puppy mill dog, so is still pretty shy and timid- he likes to hang out in the bathroom because it is a small room and he feels safe there- but he has started trying to give me kisses (he usually puts his tongue back in his mouth to quick to actually kiss me) and he has started to play with toys. He hasn't started walking around outside much yet, but loves to sniff and doesn't tremble when we go outside anymore. Sometimes he walks a little bit to find a new piece of grass to sniff. His fur is looking very shiny and is very soft. He had his first taste of pizza two days ago and he liked it a lot. He is very, very warm and when we sleep, he loves to put his body right against my back and put his nose in my hair- it feels so cute and has been very nice on these cold winter nights we have been having. Since getting a third dog I have had to turn the heat down in my house though- I guess it is really true what they say about "three dog nights"- they keep the bed nice and warm! I adopted both Chaz and Ivanna from AADR and would definitely recommend adopting to anyone considering a dog. They are so sweet, loving, and loyal. I am attaching lots of pics, feel free to use whichever ones you want. Kristin
