BIO: This boy has a sad story to tell. He was taken in by the shelter when he was 4 years old as a cruelty case. He was shot in the chest with a gun and the bullet is still there. He was adopted out once healed; now roll forward 7 years and he’s been returned again because the family was moving out of the country and couldn’t take their dogs. He came in with another dog, a female, but not a Dachshund. We promised him that he’ll never be homeless again and the next family will not hurt him, be mean to him, or leave him ever again. Is that family you? This boy howled from loneliness when we had to leave him at our halfway house but if you are a stay at home person/family or are retired and don’t go much, then he is the companion for you.
Our requirements for precious Carlos include:
- A fenced yard
- Someone who is home a lot or all the time
- Another dog to keep him company when you have to be gone
- No apartment, high-rises, or condo’s
- Allow him to sleep in the big bed with you!
Please don’t let this boy wait for his LAST forever home... he is so sweet and gentle he just wants to be loved, that’s all just loved!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
