BIO:

Bonnie is such a sweet little bundle of love at just 1o pounds.  She was  an  owner surrender. The owner said that Bonnie had become too much of a responsibility and they were afraid she would bite children.  We have no idea what was actually going on in the home.  When Bonnie was at the shelter she was terrified of everything and everyone.  Imagine spending your whole life in one place with your family , she had been in her home since she was 6 weeks old, and then being dumped at a strange loud noisy place.  You’d be terrified too.

Bonnie spent her first 2 days in foster care in her crate with the door open.  We knew she came out to eat, drink and use the potty pad.  It took her a long time to warm up. Bonnie will only bite out of fear for her life or if she is in pain.  We found out that dear sweet Bonnie had a chipped broken infected tooth.  She has probably been in pain for quite awhile.  With the tooth removed and antibiotics she should feel much better and be healthy.

Bonnie is afraid when she first meets new people at first She will only be adopted to a family without young children. An older couple or retired person would suit her just fine.  She needs to know she won’t ever be thrown away again.  As Dachshunds have such very long lives, Bonnie has many many more loving years left to give.

She is the sweetest itty-bitty girl.  Bonnie gets along very well with other dogs both male and female.  She loves plush toys.  She runs around with them happily in her little mouth, shaking them and then sits down ad generally falls asleep with them.

Bonnie does well on a leash as long as she doesn’t realize she is on one.  She is too funny.  If the leash goes taut, she just stops like a statue and doesn’t move until she has some leeway again.

Bonnie is a champion under the cover snuggler.  She loves to burrow and burrow and then sometimes she just sticks her little nose out.   At ten years old you’d never know it!  Bonnie has 2 speeds. Asleep and scooting around with her plush toys.   Bonnie is potty trained on a schedule.  She is slow to get out of bed in the morning and prefers to snuggle with her foster sister before finally getting up to start her day.  Once she is up however, she wants to go out right away though to avoid any accidents.

Please consider giving Bonnie the wonderful FOREVER home that she deserves.  She is ready and waiting for you!

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
