BIO: Panther is a sweet older girl who was rescued from a small puppymill. She has been spayed, had her teeth cleaned, and a large hernia repaired. Being neglected for so long caused Panther to have some minor lung problems, but as long as she has a pill twice a day she stays breathing easy. She put on a little weight while she was at the animal shelter, but has started a diet and exercise program and will be down to her ideal weight of about 15 pounds in no time!
Panther has quickly grown accustomed to the good life in her foster home. She likes to snooze in a dog bed or a sunny spot by the window. She often enjoys snuggling with one of the other dachshunds in the house and gets along with other dogs and cats. She enjoys going for walks and has an extra little bounce in her step when we get close to home at dinnertime. She also rides well in the car, mostly sleeping and looking out the window. Panther has not been around small children, but is good natured and would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with her.
Panther is house broken and will come pester somebody when she needs to go out. If nobody is home she will use a pee pad. She is crate trained, but since she is so good in the house, she is allowed to be free. At night she sleeps quietly in a dog bed beside foster mom's bed.
If you are looking for a gentle little friend to share walks and relaxation, Panther is your girl!
More about Panther...NC
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
