Happy Tales
Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...
Harley's Brave Journey Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Christy...IN
We absolutely love Chrissy! I know her official name was "Christy", but we started calling her Chrissy.... She is just the sweetest thing, and it is so rewarding to adopt a rescue! She loves toys to the point that she brings her toy with her on our walks and is becoming a snuggler, and we snuggle every night on the couch.
Tucker #6..DE
Tucker is just amazing. David and I are convinced that he is the perfect dog, apart from his shoe fettish! =). He does very well on walks and loves doing obedience training, especially when I use meat treats. Tomorrow is his big surgery to get fixed and I am nervous about that but I am sure he will be just fine. He is also doing very well at potty training, and knows how to use the doggy door to get outside. He loves to run around the apartment, zipping from one room to the other with lighting speed! his cornering skill is incredible, and I cant wait to start him on agility training; I know he will be fantastic at it. He is also such a big snuggle bug! his favorite times of day are in the evening when he and David and I sit down to watch an episode on tv and early in the morning when we just wake up. Both time he loves to sit in our laps and get hugs. His waggy tail and puppy kisses are the best welcome home when I get back from work. I love to sit down on the floor and have him jump into my lap. He gets up on his hind legs and gives me a hug around the neck. I am so very happy that we adopted him! I have posted a TON of pictures on facebook. please feel free to use the link below and copy the pictures to put on your website. Thank you again for allowing David and I to adopt Mr. Tucker!!
OSCAR 8...IL
Wanted to let you know that Jasper (formerly Oscar8) is doing great! He's fitting in with our family beautifully. He is one of 4 doxies at our house, and also has a cat sibling. He gets along with everybody - he's so easy going and laid back.
Not sure if you knew but Jasper is epileptic and prone to seizures, but we are diligent with his meds morning and night and he hasn't had any episodes.
He is just the sweetest little guy and such a love buy. We adore him and couldn't imagine our home without him!
Here are a few pictures we've taken over the past few months.
Thanks again for asking about Jasper -- we hope he loves his new home as much as we love him.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!
Sincerely,
Lori
Dora...MI
Dora is doing well! Here is a picture of Dora playing tug with my other Dachshund (Shannon). Dora is the black & tan. I also am sending one of Dora and Shannon cuddled up in a blanket.
Merry Christmas!
Sheri
Lola #3...MD
Lola is an incredible member of our family and we have been very blessed by having her with us. Lola seems to love her new home, she quickly explored every nook and cranny, and determined that she has several areas for specific parts of her day. During the day, when Mom and Dad have to work, she started in the office, but when she showed she could go the whole day without chewing or having an accident, she was allowed to claim the chair next to the window, where she can see what is happening outside and inside. She now has a small next of blankets and hangs out there whenever she isn't actively engaged. At night time she starts out in the bed snuggling with her mom, but soon Mom gets a little warm to be next to, and Dad gets annoyed with being woken up every 20 minutes with a shuffle in position, so from 10pm to 5am she ends up in the crate where everyone can sleep. She also like her "cave" which is beneath the bed, where she takes her bones and treats to enjoy away from prying eyes. Outside that she particularly enjoys jumping onto the couch and pushing her way onto Daddy's lap, often stepping on his laptop and sometimes curling up on the keyboard. We are working on finding a way to make laying next to daddy as good as laying ON daddy.
Each day we have a morning walk and an afternoon walk, and she is wonderfully well trained to go outside. She really did not enjoy the weather change, and hates to walk in the rain or cold, even with a sweater or raincoat, but she takes care of business and then we head back in right away on those days. When it is pleasant out we go for a nice long 45 minute walk to the park, which is broken up every few feet with some sniffing. Then when we get home she runs across the back yard chasing the squirrels.
We saw the vet right away naturally, she checked out great. She has a small issue with one of her back legs. We took an X-ray as a baseline, and are watching it. I anticipate that as she gets older it will slow her down a little, but the vet suggested that it may never hamper her any more than her "normal" leg, and to watch and see.
She has gained a little weight, and we have been giving her some fish oil to help with the dry skin. So Mom and Dad have begun cutting back on the "extra" treats to ensure she stays at a healthy weight.
We have a second home about 2 hours from our main house, and she loves going out into the coutry. She does not enjoy the car ride so much, but she has gotten used ot them as she realizes we are not going to the VET or to drop her off with someone else. She also was wonderful on an 8 hour car ride to visit family for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Lola is incredible, and I thank all of you for her. She is smart, willful, forcefully affectionate, get along with other animals, bossy, loving, cuddly, well behaved, and very good about doing her business outside. We are doing our best to live up to the example she is showing us and showering her with as much love as we can.
Best,
Joshua
