Happy Tales

Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...

Harley's Brave Journey   Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Max #10...NY

Max was adopted into a home in New York. He has a sister also that was adopted soon after him, also from AADR -- Lacy#2! We got this photo of Lacy, Max, and mom Dawn!

Lacy#2...NY

Hi lacys doing great, she loves max her companion I rescued from this site a month before getting lacy. They are best of friends actually max acts like her father. She lays on him and they lick each other and are always together. Lacy is very lovable and loves people, she loves to play and loves her treats. She loves to lay on anyone's lap and tries to play with the cat. She has gotten Max to play, while he's older he's 4 and he's calm and just likes to sleep in his blanket. She's a active puppy, always looking to play or lick someone.

NUGGET...FL

UPDATE on NUGGET: DEC 2013 -- "I wanted to say hello and keep you updated on Nugget 2 who we adopted back in 2006. He is now getting up in age probably around 12, but it hasn't stopped him from being the biggest sweetie. We moved back to Florida in July of this year and my husband now works out of my parents' house, so Nugget gets to go to work each day with Dad and hang out with him. Nugget's vision has really deteriorated over the years, he has cataracts and I suspect some retinal problems as well, but he has adapted well and it doesn't seem to slow him down too much. He has mitral valve prolapse and anesthesia is always risky for him so I don't think getting the cataracts out under general anesthesia is worth the risk for him. Sadly, our family lost our original dachshund Shotzy in October at the age of 17. She was the dog that started our love affair with dachshunds and we miss her terribly! I've attached a picture of Nugget on the couch with his dad, hanging out watching TV is his favorite thing to do! Thanks for all you do for the dachshunds! Lauren" A long time ago we got this: "Today Nugget, my boyfriend and I volunteered with the Animals Heal Hearts program at Shands which is the teaching hospital at the University of Florida. We went around and visited patients and let them pet or hold Nugget if they wanted to. We are going to start going once a week for the next couple months. Nugget did so great! He was a big hit and several patients had dachshunds or had owned them in the past. Nugget was a perfect gentleman and was not scared by any of the patients or hospital noises. It was truly touching when Nugget was sitting in one patient's bed and he rolled over to let the man give him a belly rub. His tail was wagging on the man's arm and he said, "His tail is the first thing I've felt in this hospital that hasn't hurt me." So I really feel that God's plan for us and Nugget has come full circle- your actions helped Nugget help patients hundreds of miles away! Keep up the good work and as always thanks so much for helping to get this little pup into my life! Lauren P.S. Attached is a picture of Nugget in his "uniform" with an official volunteer name badge with his name on it!"
