Hoss RIP sweet boy
A TRIBUTE TO DEAR HOSS
Dexter and I were watching the movie “Weiner Dog” one rainy Sunday last year. I started Googling and low and behold there was Hoss up for adoption! We did a meet and greet with his foster parents in Clinton, North Carolina.
After a thorough investigation by Dachshund Rescue, we were approved to take him home. I was so happy. I rushed out and got him an orthopedic bed, shipped him a Chewy package from our Westie, Emerson, and began the process of welcoming him into our family. Emerson has been with me since he was a puppy. At first, he wasn’t too happy about sharing his home and family with Hoss. They quickly bonded and became pretty close pals.
Hoss would follow Emerson around the yard, and he tried to play with Emerson from time to time. Hoss didn’t care for toys. He only wanted to be loved and fed. He bonded with Dexter quickly as he was home every day. The two were pretty much inseparable.
Hoss enjoyed going to the park across the street. He pranced when he walked! He was a barker (which I understand is pretty common in Dachshunds). He was ALWAYS a sweet and affectionate dog, and we will miss him dearly.
He had his usual vet appointment shortly after adopting him. He later developed a heart murmur and elevated blood pressure which we were giving him medication for. Several weeks ago he just wasn’t eating and threw up. I was praying his condition was viral. I took him to his vet at Atlantic Animal Hospital. After lab work and an x-ray, we received the heartbreaking news that Hoss had an abdominal mass the size of a grapefruit. As someone once said to me, “dogs are furry heartbreakers”.
He had what I hope and pray were the best 11 months of his life with us.
Stretch RIP
Stretch was truly one of a kind. The goodest of the good boys, so well behaved and loving life. We rescued him in January 2010, and the joy and happiness he brought to our lives was immeasurable. He was our best friend and whole world ever since. He was a special dog and such a character, truly thinking he was human. He would try to talk to us and even sing and howl with us sometimes and it was adorable. Though he did have a stubborn streak, only cuddling when HE was in the mood to do so, he was never shy at showing us how much he loved us by the guilt trip eyes if we had to go out and the wagging tail and around the house zoomies upon our return. We didn't like to leave him often and much preferred spending time with him at home then going anywhere else. He never had a shortage of treats, within reason of course, and at dinner time would go around the table hitting every leg with his nose to get a taste of dog-safe human foods from everyone's plates. He loved playing with his toys that we lined our hallway with so he had easy access at all times, running around his backyard and going for walks on the trail. Stretch had a smile that was infectious, often getting lots of compliments from strangers when on our walks. I was Stretch's as much as he was mine. Having a jealous streak, he would bark if I dare tried to pet another dog and if a family or neighbor dog came by, he would deliberately walk and stay between us, as if to say "Back off, she is mine." He had a bed in every room and loved to burrow under cozy blankets. Every day, Stretch would rotate between my husband and my offices since we work from home, wanting to make sure he spent time napping in each of our rooms. There are no words for the pain and devastation we feel now that our best little friend got sick and taken away at 13.5 years away. It was not enough time and I hope wherever he is, he knows how much he meant to us and knows we did everything we could to give him the best life possible.
Summer RIP
Sweet Summer crossed the Rainbow Bridge on May 12, 2023 at 11 years young after unexpectedly having a bad seizure that the emergency vet could not bring her out of. They ultimately think she had an underlying brain tumor or possible stroke. In her short time with us, she shared so many things about herself. She had a bark like a lion and always informed us when it was time to be fed. If she was extra excited, you got to witness her backwards Moonwalk dance! She spent her days cuddling on my lap in the recliner, adorably snoozing around the house, and rolling over on her back for you to give her belly rubs. This girl was truly a sweetheart and was so loved. Had we known she only had a month, we'd do it all over again. Sweet dreams to my "Cadbury Lion".
Oscar from AL....RIP sweet boy
It is with a very heavy heart that I have to tell you that my darling Oscar has traveled over the rainbow bridge. He was suffering from dementia and his wonderful vets and I had an appointment to discuss his quality of life and made the decision to free him from his earthly home to one free of confusion and pain. I loved him to the moon and back. Wanted to let you know I did my very best and tried everything I could for him. He was quite the celebrity around our country roads in his stroller walking every day. - Pam M.
Scooby...RIP
Today, October 15, marks the first year anniversary of our little Scooby’s passing.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF SCOOBY
MARCH 17, 2006 TO OCTOBER 15, 2021
We adopted Scooby on Feb. 9, 2008. We met in Tennessee to pick up this little guy. It was love at first sight. He quickly became comfortable in his new home. He was absolute joy to us. We truly “rescued” each other.
We will always miss him – he was quite the character. We never realized what a “pack leader” he was until he went to the “rainbow bridge”. Staci - his constant 4 legged companion is lost without him ---- and so are
we .
We are ever so thankful for all the work that “ALL AMERICAN DACHSHUND RESCUE” does with these four legged fur babies. With a very special thank you to you Diane.
We were truly blessed to have him as a part of our family for all that time. We will always have a special place in our hearts for Scooby (our little man)------- forever !
Sincerely,
The Pettigrew family -
Jim, Joyce , and Staci (and Scooby in spirit)
