BIO:

My name is Oakley and I am an owner surrender from AL.  My brother (Saban) and I were locked in a bathroom for two years.  I’m not sure why, but it was a blessing the day a lady from a rescue group in Mt Olive, AL took us and gave us to AADR, which specializes in us Dachshunds.  It looks like everyone wants my brother and I to have the best Forever Home possible!

Although I didn’t know a life beyond the bathroom, I am learning and experiencing many new things in my new Foster home.   I want a family that wants to hold and comfort me as they continue to help me learn the basic things about being a dog.   I am 3 years old and on the friendly side.   I am affectionate and love to cuddle on your lap whenever possible.   Although I am not housebroken, my Foster Mom has a doggie door and I like going in/out.  I haven’t quite figured out that I have to do my business outside... I just need a little help in this area.  If you are patient with me, I will get it!!  I love treats and am food motivated.

I have been with my new “Foster Mom” for just a little while now.  I have learned to sit and wait when dinner is ready.  I get so excited – I do spins around the room!  I never realized how much fun eating could be!  Every evening when the sun goes down, my Foster Mommy lets us cuddle on her lap with the others and snuggle in the warm blankets (mmm... this feels so good and I know I am safe).   I like taking naps on the rug or in the open crate, and being held and cuddled.   I don’t bark much and have no food or fear aggression.  I am still learning my potty habits and leash training.

I am looking for my forever home... a family who will give me lots of love, take me for walks, cuddle and play with me, and always keep me safe.  I need a Family who is patient and will help me learn social skills and teach me all the “doggie” things I need to learn.   I sure would like my FOREVER HOME before the summer.   Only serious applicants need apply.

More about Oakley number 2....WI

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
