BIO:  Hello!  I’m Darby, do you want to be my new Mom or Dad?  I’m a young fella, but I’m not puppy-ish.  I don’t gnaw furniture or tear up things and I’m pretty low key.  I like food, car rides, sniffing around the yard, and sleeping in the big bed.  I love to be near my human, but I don’t have to be in your lap all the time.  I’m a happy and handsome dude!

Darby is a true treasure, soft and cuddly and sweet as honey.  He has a big dog bark, but he isn’t a nuisance barker.  He would love a fenced yard, but he’s pretty good on a leash, just don’t expect him to go jogging.  For a young dog, he’s pretty much a couch potato.  Darby is very friendly, an all around good boy!

When Darby came into rescue, he did go through heartworm treatments. Now that the heartworms are gone, he will be coming with a six month supply of Interceptor Plus heartworm preventative. 

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
