BIO:

Meet the Luke-ster!  You can call him “Cool Hand” or “Belly Boy” because he is cooler than Cool Hand Luke and will roll over for a belly rub without a moment’s notice.  We don’t know much about this sweet boy other than he was turned over to AADR by another rescue.  He recently lost 11 teeth and is still on antibiotics and pain meds and will be on softened food for a little while longer, but seems to be doing great.

He doesn’t play with toys but for the first time since being here, he chased a squirrel yesterday.  He is so funny and wants to make every move I make and really likes to be outdoors.  He does okay on the leash and with a little more work he will be great.  Last night he learned the “stay” command.  What that means is he “stays” on the couch for two minutes while I go potty.  He absolutely wants nothing to do with the crate so I haven’t forced him.  He won’t even go in it for food or treats unless I leave the room then he runs in and runs back out.  I’m also not sure he has been shown much kindness but he is learning very quickly to soak it up with every breath.  Luke is startled by loud noises and voices as if he thinks he’s being scolded. He is not a kisser but loves to be loved on.  He just wants to be next to you on the couch or under the covers in the big bed and gets along really well with my blind Chi.

This is one sweet little soul that is looking for a forever home with lots of love and attention to give!

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
