BIO:

Hey guys, my name is Maverick.  Great to meet you!  My foster mom says I am very handsome, lovable, and playful.  I love my foster mom, but what I want most is a forever home of my very own.

I'm 6 years old, but I play like a puppy.  I love my toys and playing fetch.  I am very talented at “destuffing” toys and getting that darned old squeaker out!   I'm quite good at sharing my toys with my humans, but sometimes not so much with other pups.  I’m also a little hesitant about other pups getting in my food bowl, but you know, a guy has to have some things of his very own.

My favorite place is to be right by your side.  I like to give kisses and LOVE belly rubs.  I am completely potty trained.  My sleeping preferences are quite simple, just a nice spot in the big bed works quite well for me.  My favorite place is up close to your head in the bed, partially under the covers.  I'll bunch up the blanket and "nurse" which my foster mom thinks is just too cute!

I am accustomed to having full run of our house and a doggy door to go in and out whenever I need to be outside.  So, I really think I would do best in a home where I won't be crated and have a fenced yard where I can run and play.

I was born with bowed back legs, which gives me that macho (and cute) cowboy look.  The doctor assured me that it shouldn't bother me unless I get overweight, so I love going on walks and running around in the back yard.  I walk really well on a leash.

I believe I would do great as an only dog or with a buddy or two that love to play also.  Presently, I have a foster baby sister and really like playing with her.

Being your little buddy would be the best!  There are just soooo many adventures for us to share.  If you want to know more about me or have questions, please contact my foster mom, Terry, at sasha@new.rr.com .

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
