Peanut is quite the versatile doxie. He loves to play with toys and other dogs, but also loves to cuddle and nap with his people. He’s a bit of a goofball and can be vocal when he’s excited, anxious, or upset (like when he is crated), but he warmed up to me very quickly. I get the impression he may not have come from the best background, but he was cuddling on the couch with me in no time!
He does really well with my 9 y/o male dachshund. They play constantly, and haven’t had scuffles so far. He seems to enjoy having another dog around, but I think would also do well as an only dog. He’s also doggie door trained, he picked up on it in no time.
Peanut does poorly with strangers entering "his" home without proper introduction. He feels threatened by anyone who is not part of his household, and will tuck his tail between his legs and lunge at the person if they come towards him without allowing him to adjust. We have had success if the new person gets down, makes no moves towards him, speaks calmly, and gives him several treats and waits several minutes before approaching him. He will likely need further training, but don't let this behavior detract you from Peanut's loving, sweet demeanor! If you are willing to spend both time and patience on him, Peanut is your man! He can't wait to meet his forever home to love and cuddle with all day long.
Peanut would make a great addition to a home that can accommodate a moderate energy dog (he’s not high energy but also not a couch potato). He has some loveable quirks... for example, he loves to suckle on blankets! He’s a sweet guy that can’t wait for a family to love that will be patient with him as he learns and adapts.
