BIO:

Poor Cha-Cha came in as an owner surrender from TX, neglected and thrown away after they decided they didn’t want her any longer. What they didn’t tell us is that her toe nails were growing into her pads, she was about 6 pounds overweight, and she has Cushings.

We do not have her on meds at this time and she is doing fine but she’ll need to go to someone that understands the disease. She will drink a lot and because of that will urinate a lot, but if you either have a doggie door  or take her out on a schedule, she is house-trained. What we have found works for her is we keep the water bowl outside and when she goes out to get a drink she’ll also potty. Other than that there are no other symptoms except a bit of a pot belly.

Cha-Cha, loves to lay in your lap or be right with you following you all over but she doesn’t have a problem if you have to go away, she’ll be right there waiting at the door for you when you get home. We don’t think she’d work for someone that has to work an 8 hour shift or more but would be fine with a stay at home person or someone that works from home. She doesn’t require a large fenced-in area but a fence is a must for her due to the frequency of having to go out to potty.

Cha-Cha loves to eat so her food has to be measured and not free-fed. She gets really excited when it’s feeding time and will talk to you until you put her food bowl down. One other thing that you’ll find really cute, she is a snorer. She can keep up with the best of the human snorers so be prepared but her sweetness out-weighs her snoring by far!

If you’d like to know more about Cha-Cha please e mail her foster mom and she’ll be happy to tell you all about her.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
