About Maggie Mae....FL

  • Declawed: No

CITY, STATE:   Montgomery, AL

NAME:  Maggie Mae

AGE:  7 yrs.

SEX:  Female

WEIGHT:  14 lbs.

COLOR:  Red

COAT:  Smooth

UP TO DATE:  Yes

SPAYED/NEUTERED:  Yes

ADOPTION FEE:  $160.00 + $15 chip fee

HOUSETRAINED:  I potty well outside on a schedule, but I sometimes have dribbling problems. My foster Mom lets me wear cute little baby onsies or a pair of special doggie panties with a panty liner when I am inside. I know when I need to go and will ask to go outside. I potty best when I can walk along as I am going due to my previous back injury. I don’t have accidents overnight in my crate.

CRATE TRAINED: Yes

LEASH TRAINED: Yes

SPECIAL NEEDS:  I have IVDD, which means that my back gives me trouble. I had successful surgery a couple of years ago to correct the problem, but injured it again sometime later. As a result, I walk kind of funny. But give me a big backyard, and I can romp and run with all my foster sisters. I don’t need to be allowed to jump off of furniture or climb a lot of stairs. Don’t call me handicapped – I’m handicapable!

HOME W/ SMALL CHILDREN:  Unknown

HOME W/ OTHER DOGS: Yes                  MALE:       FEMALE:  I love my foster sisters and get along well with them for the most part. I’m a little bossy, so I probably wouldn’t do so well with another alpha female.

HOME W/ CATS:  Unknown

BIO: My foster family thinks that I’m a sweetie pie, and I’m sure you would agree! I love to snuggle beside you on the couch or in your favorite chair. I tend to bark at noises or when my foster sisters are barking, but it’s just to alert you to danger. It’s probably a good idea to feed me in my own separate place each meal since I eat really fast, and tend to try and check on how much is left in everyone else’s bowl. I love to chase lizards and squirrels, and have caused the demise of several lizards in spite of my wonky walk. I’m very feisty and energetic, and I love to play with my foster sisters. I also love to chew on bully sticks or other toys. I would love to be your forever snuggle bug.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
