Baron came into his new foster home almost 3 months ago. He has fit in nicely with all the other dogs both male and female, big (Rottweiler) and small (Doxies and mixed breed). He is very food motivated and if anything falls on the floor, it is in his mouth in a flash! Whether it is food or not he will attempt to eat it, so you have to be careful. He is a little shy about being picked up and will try to run off, but he will let you pick him up. I don't think he is too sure about what to do with the attention. He loves to get scratches around his neck and will dance around playfully until you do. He is also a perfect little lapdog and will snuggle on the couch with you to relax. Baron doesn't bark much unless to warn you about some danger or in anticipation for his dinner. He is very well behaved in a crate. Baron has quite a little personality once he has his chance to relax and shine. A home without small children would be best since he is food motivated and is quick to snatch up objects.

BIO: Baron was given up for the common reason, children or grandchildren. Too many times dachshunds lose their happy homes because the owners don’t take special care when children or grandchildren come into the picture. Baron snapped at a grandchild so he had to go.

Baron came from West TN and is very devoted to his female owner and the foster dad ignores him so he’s fine with him. Baron needs either a “female only” home or a home with no children and a husband that understands he’ll not be Baron’s favorite person. Baron is getting better about being left by his mistress but he can’t be an apartment dog. A fenced-in yard is a must because he does love to go outside if you’re out just working in the yard or enjoying the day. A person that is retired and home most of the time would be a perfect fit for Baron.

Baron would love to sleep in the big bed but we have him sleep in a doggie bed in the bedroom and he does just fine all night long. He has had a couple scuffles with other fosters so we think that he’d be best as an only dog, or fed separately if there is another dog in the household.

Baron came in over weight at 23 lbs. but we’ve gotten him down to 20 lbs. and he looks good. He is a small standard dachshund. He’s very well put together, good breed lines with short legs and fat feet. Because of that, he needs to keep at a good weight and no jumping or doing a lot of stairs.
