Lucy is an absolute angel. I don’t know how anyone could not love this little girl. She was given up because the family was struggling to care for itself and hadn’t cared for this girl for many years. We have taken care of her and gotten her up to date on shots and she has just had her teeth cleaned. She is a little overweight so we are working on shedding a couple of pounds. Lucy is doing very well on her “diet” and doesn’t complain at all about it. Lucy has been working on her housetraining as her previous owners never thought that was an important issue. She is a quick learner however and thus far there have been no accidents and the crate training has been wonderful! She even will make her bed! It is very sweet watching her nose her blankets smooth to her perfection.
This the most special baby around though. All she wants to do is cuddle on your lap, wants you to love her and to love you back. She will give you her heart. She is starting to play and interact with the other dogs and it has been wonderful to see.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If going by ground transport, the adopter is responsible for an additional fee of $25 for the required Health Certificate to cross state lines. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
