BIO: Hi everyone, boy do I ever have an adventure to tell you about! You see, I decided, or someone decided for me, that I should run loose at an airport in middle TN. I was running loose for about 30 days, getting food where I could and dodging heavy equipment, but the owners of the airport took pity on me and left food out for me. Most of the time I would wait until they were gone before I’d go and eat it and I’d run when I saw them, I was scared! I was scared they’d hurt me and I didn’t know them and they were bigger than me! What’s a poor little guy like me supposed to do?
Anyway, my adventure stopped when they set a “trap” for me (a metal cage) and I went in it to get the wonderful food they put in there for me, it was soooo good, but then the door went down and I was trapped. I was so scared but then the nice man from the airport took me out and held me and told me that everything was going to be ok from now on! It was so nice not to be running anymore and I was safe! They reached out to a lady they called a “rescue lady” and she came and got me and now I’m looking for a home to call my own.
Winston, as the people at the airport named him, needs to have a fenced in yard where he can run; he is to NEVER be allowed off-leash because he’d be so gone. He is skittish with new people so you’ll need to let him come to you. He’s still working on housebreaking so a strict schedule is needed. We’ve not worked on his leashing because the foster moms have a fenced in yard. We really think he’d do better with a younger dog to play with and help him to learn to trust. Male or female, it would not matter.
When he comes to you to be picked up he does melt into you so we think with TLC he’ll be a wonderful pet and let his days of being an adventurer be just a scary memory.
If you are interested please contact his foster mom’s for more info. If you are out of the state of NH and want to adopt him you will have to pay the 50.00 health certificate fee due to the strict laws in the state of NH, even if you go into the state to get him.
=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.
We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
