BIO:
Katie was turned in to the animal shelter because her owners no longer wanted her. Their loss since she is a lovely little lady who is friendly with people and other dogs. Although she is 14, she is in excellent health. She will be getting her teeth cleaned soon and will probably lose a few, but that won't slow her down a bit.
Katie walks well on a leash and enjoys short strolls around the neighborhood. At home she likes to sit in a lap or snooze in her dog bed or in a sunny spot by the window. She will let you know if she wants to go out or it's time for dinner or a snack. Katie gets along fine with other dogs. She is very mild mannered, so would probably be okay with cats, but we can introduce her to some if you need to know how she does. Older children who understand that they need to be gentle with Katie would be fine.
Katie is housebroken and if left for extended periods will use a pee pad. Because she is so well mannered, Katie has not been crated much, but she is okay with it. At night she sleeps quietly in a dog bed next to foster mom's bed, but would be happy to sleep with her people too.
If you are looking for a gentle little lady to share quiet times with, Katie is your girl! If you are interested in Katie, please email her foster mom Kathleen at Ksioui@hotmail.com with any questions you may have, and fill out an AADR application at www.allamericandachshundrescue.org.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
