BIO:  Hi out there! My name is Anna and I am looking for my furever home. I came from a bad situation as my previous owners did not take very good care of me. I was surrendered to the rescue along with my brother... he was way over weight and I was under weight. At one time I had been infested with fleas and had places that were healing where I had been bitten. These places are clearing up and now I have very dry skin so my foster mom is bathing me once a week with medicated shampoo. As you will be able to tell in my pictures, I have little white specks on my black fur where the skin has flaked off. No matter how hard foster mommy tries to get the flakes off with brushing, more will just appear. But my coat is now coming back in and it is starting to look very healthy and shiny!

I did not know how to potty outside nor had I been outside that much. I did not know how to walk on a leash and had very little training of any kind. I am being fostered in a very nice home that has 2 other dogs and they are working on showing me the ropes. I love being outside and have learned how to do my business outside and I have very, and I mean very, few accidents in the house! I have learned to whine and run to the door to let you know that I need to go outside. I have no food aggressions but like all doxies I love to try and eat everyone else’s food, but I am learning really fast that that is not how it is done. Foster mommy says that I need to gain about a pound but that would be all. I am crate trained and will only whine a little when put in the crate at night. Getting a treat helps a lot and foster mommy will tell me it is time for bed and I quieten down. Foster mommy is working on my leash training, especially when going for walks. I am working really hard on this leash training and I will have it down pat soon. I love snuggling on the couch next to you as close as I can get under my blankie; I am not real big on wanting to lie on your lap. I really have no interest in toys even when my foster sister plays with her balls and the 2 of them play chase in the house. Since I am not really good around children - they really scare me - I will need to be in a home that does not have children. It would be really nice if the home had another dog for me to be with.  If not, that will mean that I get all the attention. Foster mommy says that I am the sweetest, most lovable dog and that I am really, really smart and catch on fast to new things.

If I sound like the prefect fur-baby for you and you are interested in me please go on line to AADR at allamericandachshundrescue.org and fill out an online app. If you have any questions about me please feel free to email my foster mom at imm5455@hotmail.com. She will be glad to tell you all about me; she just loves to talk about me.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Anna.....MI

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
