BIO: Peyton was left at the animal shelter because her owners didn't have time for her. She is a little skittish when she first meets people, but will become your shadow very quickly. Although she is afraid, she seems to enjoy being petted. During a trip to the outdoor farmers' market, she became noticeably more confident as more people gave her attention. As she continues to learn that nobody will hurt her, she will become more outgoing.

Peyton walks well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood. She loves to sit on a lap or watch you from her dog bed. She gets along well with other smaller dogs, but is skittish, and tends to hide from larger dogs. Because she can be fearful around new things and quick motion, Peyton would be happiest in a home without young children. Older children who can understand the need for patience with her would be fine.

Peyton is doing well with her housebreaking, but has had a few accidents. During the day she stays in a confined area with some other dogs and uses a pee pad if needed. At night she runs into her crate and sleeps quietly all night with no accidents. Peyton would do well with a fenced yard and another friendly dog to help her get over her fears.

If you are willing to help Peyton gain her confidence, you will be rewarded with a beautiful and loving little companion.

More about Peyton.....AR

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
