BIO

Hi Everyone! My name is Maxx and I am searching for my very own furever home. I am 9 years old and am a handsome smooth coat black and tan Dachshund. I'm going to lay it all on the line for you, I came from a bad situation. I was surrendered with my sister, she was underweight and I was over weight. My foster mom has been working with me to help me lose the extra weight and I only have 3 pounds to go!

A little about me, I am very friendly and haven't met a stranger yet. I have become good friends with my foster brother and we play all the time. Our favorite toys are the squeaky ones and being able to chase each other throughout the yard. I would really like my furever home to have a fenced in yard so I can run around and make sure no squirrels are sneaking in. I am leashed trained, but would need a long walk daily if the yard is not fenced.

I am house-trained, crate trained and know my commands. The commands I know are sit, stay, no, and no barking - I am very smart, I can even use the doggie door. If you don't know what it is, its a little door in the big door so I can go outside to potty or check for squirrels if need be. It is very convenient. I even get along with my foster mom's cats! I am not sure how I would be with little children, but I think I would prefer my furever home to have kids that are over 10.

My favorite time of the day is when my foster mom comes home from work. She gives me lots of good ear rubs and belly rubs. I mostly sleep in my doggie bed at night, but sometimes my foster mom lets me sleep in the big bed with her (she said she has to rotate us, so we all get a chance to sleep in the big bed) and that is just the best thing ever! I know you haven't met me, but I am a super sweet guy who just wants some cuddles and love in a good home. Will you give your heart to me? I'll give you mine in return.

If I sound like the perfect Dachshund for you, please email my foster mom Cathy at  cathyjbm@aol.com and fill out an application online at www.allamericandachshundrescue.org. I hope to hear from you soon!

More about Maxx.....AR

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
