Update on Chelsea...She has some incontinence due to back surgery several years ago. She walks fine and can do some steps but she would need to wear a diaper at night or when you are gone for long periods of time but PLEASE do NOT let this stop you from adopting her. She is wonderful, sweet, loves other people dogs and just wants a chance to have a home of her own!
BIO: Chelsea was given up when she had to be taken away from her elderly owner when she was unable to care for her. Chelsea had been over-fed and probably fed people food. We are working with her to eat Science Diet Metabolic to take the extra weight off that she has put on. Chelsea is now down to her perfect weight and we now have her on a maintenance food.
Chelsea is learning to adjust to a home with other dogs and does well with both male and female dogs. She was very confused at first but has been a trooper with all the changes.
Chelsea sometimes has accidents when she gets excited or nervous so she needs to be kept on a strict schedule of pottying plus that’s why we feel a fenced-in yard would be best for her and someone that is home a lot. She can go all night long with no accidents but must be taken out as soon as you wake so she can potty outside. We are looking for a home for Chelsea that understands that she may always have accidents and be fine with that because other than that, she is a perfect dog!
She’s great company and will follow you from room to room. Chelsea is not a “get in your face” kinda girl but she does love attention yet doesn’t demand it.
Chelsea will quietly snooze in a doggie bed or on the floor waiting for you to finish what you are doing and likes a kind word or pet from time to time.
If you are looking for a gentle girl to keep you company or another pet, then Chelsea may just be the girl for you. She is not a barker and is not high energy, just right for quiet living and a last forever home to call her own!
Chelsea just had a fresh dental and lost no teeth, which tells us that her previous owner took great care of her. Please consider this quiet, dignified girl and look past the 5-6 lbs she has to lose. That should take about 3 months on the diet food she’s on (and no snacks!). Soon she’ll have her figure back and will be looking good!
Chelsea just needs a smaller area to live in and a bed she can burrow in and she's beyond happy, please be her Christmas Wish!
=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.
We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
