BIO:  Bill came from a kill shelter in AR where he was turned in with another dog. We do not know why Bill was turned in since he is as close to perfect that you’re going to get. He’s friendly, happy and gets along with other dogs. He’s calm enough that he’d probably be good with kids over 8 years old but we don’t have any children to test him with.

He uses the doggie door and with some consistency we are sure he’d catch on to going to the door. He walks great on a leash as well.

For his young age he is very calm and laid back, not at all hyper but we suggest a younger dog for him to have as company when you can’t be home. When you are home, he’s happy to lay under your chair or in a doggie bed and even sometimes just on the floor.

Of course with wire hairs they have to be groomed regularly to keep them looking good. He is not a soft coated wire but a true wire and his coat needs to be stiped.

If you are looking for a wire or have had a wire and are looking for another, then look no further. Bill is the one for you and yes he knows his name!

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Bill.....VA

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
