BIO:  Mickey #5 came from an owner in KY that could no longer care for him because of her health problems. From the beginning it was pretty clear that she had pretty much ignored Mickey because he is starved for attention. His main goal is to sit in your lap and have you cradle him like a baby and rub his belly. He is learning to share attention but once in a while will need to be reminded of that. He is working very hard on house training and with your help he can obtain that.

He walks ok on a leash and the crate he’s not sure about, but we’ve been working on that and he’s doing much better than he was when he first came to us.

We are not sure he’d be good with small children but kids over 10 we think would be ok. And oh yes, a fenced in yard as he loves to be outside with you when you are our working in the yard or just relaxing.

Mickey is a little on the thin side so once he puts on a little weight to be the ideal weight, he’ll be a small standard, and with his deep red he’ll be a stunning addition to your family. Apply today - he won’t last long at all!

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Mickey number 5....NH

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
