BIO:

Louise came into rescue along with another male from an owner that found them, had them for a while, then decided it was best to find them a better home where someone was home more. Louise is a great dog and starved for attention. Gets along with other dogs in the foster home and just wants a lap to lay in and will do what she has to ta get in that lap for some snuggle time.

Louise is pretty well house broken but you do need to keep her on a schedule so that she can continue to do well, you have to ask her to go out not relay on her asking you. She also is crate trained but as with all dog we never want to see them crated more than 4 hours at a time. Gating is a better option.

Louise was a tad overweight when we got her in but we’ve slimmed her down and now she looks great we just like to watch her weight and keep her active. She loves the fenced in yard and playing with the other dogs in the foster home.

Louise might be good with children under 8 yrs but as with all dogs parents should never leave them unattended especially if the child is allowed to have food other than at the table because Louise would try to steal it out of the child’s hand.

We do think that Louise would be better with another pet to cuddle with when you are gone, she doesn’t need to be crated as she is not destructive when you leave. More questions just ask us we are happy to talk dachshunds with anyone that is thinking of adopting.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
