Say Hello to Fannie! This little waif was left at a rural shelter in Alabama without even a name. She was a little bag of bones starving for food and love. Now she’s had both and look what a sweetheart she is! Her fur is shiny and her ribs aren't so obvious. Fannie soaks up love like a sponge. She meets me at the door when I get home and jumps for joy. She’s learned to take care of business outside as long as she’s given regular and frequent opportunity. She is even starting to use the pee pads like her foster brothers and sisters. Fannie’s favorite place is in Foster Mom’s lap, but she loves Foster Dad too. This little one gets along with everyone, loves being with people and going for car rides. Fannie is about as close to perfect as it gets! She’s looking for a family that will love her forever and never abandon her again.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
