BIO:

Rex is a beautiful long-haired dachshund with a vibrant red coat. He is about 6 years old and was going to be a stud, but a change of plans brought him to us! Rex came from a small rural shelter in OH along with another dachshund, both turned in after the people got them and were going to breed them then decided against it. He was purchased as a puppy from a pet store in OH but we don’t know how he ended up in the shelter in OH that we pulled him from.

Due to lack of dental care, Rex had to have a some teeth removed. However, he has no problem eating hard food. Rex is content both indoors and outdoors, whether it's sitting with you on the couch, or lazing in the sun on the porch. He is great with other dogs, as well aschildren. He chases cats when outside, but doesn't fool with them when he's inside. He is pretty quick to adapt to routine, and is almost completely housebroken. He does very well on a leash, with no pulling or frequent stopping. He sticks by your side the entire time. He can go in a crate on occasion, but it seems extremely stressful for him, so we discourage leaving him a crate for long periods of time.

All in all, Rex would make any home the perfect companion!  He is sweet, gentle, and a great soul to add to any household!  And, his picture sure doesn’t do him justice, he’s a beautiful deep red. If you think you’d like to adopt this boy, please fill out an online adoption application today.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
