BIO:
Lucy Lou came from a breeder in West TN after she contacted another rescue person to take her. She’s had a c-section and the breeder took her puppies that didn’t die and put them on another nursing mom. She was done with Lucy Lou, wanted her gone. We were happy to take her and when she was better we got her spayed and treated her for a UTI. Lucy Lou was fairly scared when we got her but once she adjusted to us she quickly because very friendly to both her temp foster mom and dad. She is also learning to play with the other dogs in the foster home and is turning into a little social butterfly. She loves to sleep in the big bed and will sleep all night long as long as she is taken out last thing at night and out first thing in the morning. She loves lap time.
Lucy Lou would do better with a family that is home most of the time or had another dog to keep her company when you are gone. She needs patience with her continued housebreaking and that’s why we feel a fenced yard would be best as she truly does love to be outside in the yard. We are continuing to work with her to teach her how to walk on a leash. She’s learned so much in a short amount of time but the most important is her learning to be a pet not a breeding machine. Because of her small size we’d love to see her stay in FL. Thank you for thinking of rescue and remember when you adopt her you are saving two the one you adopted and the one you made room for, please be a part of the solution to reach the goal of no more homeless pets.
=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.
We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
