BIO:  Hi my name is Henry.  I am a four year old long curly hair dachshund.  I lived the first four years of my life in an abusive home where I was never walked nor was I brought outside to go to the bathroom.  I was pretty much just left in a crate (which I despise now) all the time.

I live in a foster home now.  It has been 4 months and I love my foster mom and dad and have bonded with the 2 other dachshunds.

I have housebroken myself and love the outdoors.  I run around the yard even when it is snowing or raining.  I love walks on the leash and just am very happy but timid with strangers.

I am looking for a very special home with a fenced in yard and a quiet and loving house to call my own.

From my foster mom: Henry is the most handsome little boy I have ever met.   Happy to be outside in the fenced in yard running and playing.  He had absolutely no access to the great outdoors in his first home and enjoys being outside, even in the snow.  He is full of kisses and eager to please once he has bonded with you.  He comes when called and sits and begs. He loves going for long walks and never seems to tire. He is timid of strangers and it takes him some time to bond, but when he does, he will not leave your side.

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Henry.....NH

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
