BIO:

Baron #2 came from Indianapolis where he was given up because he was unreliable around the toddlers due to his one blind eye. They felt it was safer for their young child and the unborn if they re-homed him. We were contacted and we said we’d take him. Baron is a wonderful, sweet dog, will bark at strangers but if allowed to smell your hand he’s ready to greet you with a tail wag.

We think older children would be ok that would not startle him because of his one blind eye. He does love his people and will attach himself to one person in the house and could get protective of that one person if there are other dogs in the household. We have been correcting that behavior and he’s doing very well. That training would need to carry over into the new home so he can have that kind of structure going forward.

He is housebroken and can be left uncrated in the home while the family is away but remember accidents can happen until any new dog is adjusting to a new home.  It didn’t take Baron long at all to get used to using the doggie door but he also will go to the door to be let out.

Baron is a little playful but not a high energy, ready to cuddle with you or other dogs at any time. He also loves to go for car rides and gets excited to go.

If you are looking for an all-round sweet friendly guy then Baron would be it.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
