BIO:  Gracie came from FL where she was put in a crate and lived in it 24/7. The police actually had to confiscate her and then she went to live with a family that really wanted to keep her but they worked long hours and because of her handicap they didn’t feel safe leaving her out with their big dogs so she was confined to a crate again. They didn’t want that for Gracie so they surrendered her to us for her welfare, and we applaud them for that. They loved her but had to let her go. Now about Gracie….

Gracie is the sweetest girl you’d ever want to meet but she’s deaf so we are looking for a special home for her. One that is used to DD’s and deaf dogs, are you that family?

Gracie has to be kept on a schedule for housebreaking(foster mom has a doggie door and she uses that very well) and if you watch for her signs that she has to go then she’ll let you know and go potty outside. She could also be taught to ring a bell at the door, she won’t hear it but you would.

She doesn’t chew on furniture like some pups will, she’s not a digger in your yard but very well leash trained(must have fenced yard).

She can sleep in a crate at night or in a doggie bed(that she likes to chew on, puppy behavior). She doesn’t like to have her nails trimmed(that will need to be worked on).

Gracie is one of the happiest dogs I’ve fostered but if another dog gets in her face and she can’t hear their intentions she is not afraid to come back at them. Possibly a bigger dog would be better for Gracie but one that LOVES to play because she sure does. When not playing she’s happy to sleep comfortably in the room with you or next to you.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. 

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate. 

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
