Buddy was an owner surrender because they said they could not house break him but we’ve had no trouble with Buddy at all. He loves using our doggie door and when we take him outside he’s happy to do his busy there. We think the problem was the fact that he was not neutered therefore could have been marking which is not a housebreaking issue but a marking issue that can be solved with a male bellyband.
What we do about Buddy is he is a GREAT dog, friendly to all, friendly to dogs but we don’t know about cats. Buddy would be a great dachshund if you have kids 8 and older as his owners had kids and he was great with them. Buddy loves attention and loves to play with the other foster dogs.
Buddy is probably one of the best all round foster dogs we’ve had in a while…you might even say he’s perfect so if you are looking for the perfect pet that would be Buddy. Fenced yard would be best for him and another dog to buddy around with male or female doesn’t matter to Buddy!
Ask foster mom for more info on Buddy she could go on for hours about him!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
