BIO:

Daphne came from a small shelter in Mayfield, KY because her owners could no longer care for her. It was discovered that she had bladder stones so the shelter had the surgery performed to rid her of her stones and they were tested so she’ll need to be on special food for life. Unfortunately she was allowed to get overweight so we are working very hard to get her girlish figure back. Unfortunately we think Daphne was allowed to free feed and that’s what helped to get her overweight and as dachshund owners we know they should never be allowed to free feed.

Daphne is a sweet sweet girl that just wants to be loved and a nice soft doggie bed to sleep in. She gets along with all the dogs in foster care and the cat as well. As Daphne loses weight she will become more active so we think another dog her age or a year or two younger would be great for her. A fenced yard as well because she loves to be outside in the pleasant weather.

Daphne is not a barker, low key and a love bug. Please consider her for your next best friend.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
