BIO:

Pepper is one of the friendliest dogs you will ever meet ... and did I mention HANDSOME?!?!  The white blaze on his chest makes it looks like he’s wearing a tie ... and ready to go out on the town.  Pepper is a standard size dachshund and has that wonderful DEEP doxie bark.  You don’t see many of standards these days since many folks are looking for minis and thus the breeders are making doxies smaller and smaller.

Pepper was an owner surrender in FL.  The family would leave him in the backyard for hours.  Pepper didn’t think much of that idea so would dig his way out under the fence.  Not good ... they lived near a busy, busy highway.  For Pepper’s safety, the family reached out to AADR knowing we would find Pepper the perfect family.

Pepper would love a fenced yard, BUT only if you won’t leave him out there for hours alone.  He walks great on a leash, loves to ride in the car, and, of course, loves to sleep in the BIG bed but doesn’t need to if you don’t want, he’s just as happy to spend the night on the couch or in a doggie bed!

If you’re looking for a sturdy, handsome, and friendly doxie, Pepper is your man!!!

Pepper is housebroken and will go to the door when he needs to go out. We want to see him have a fenced in yard for him to enjoy but not necessary if you are willing to walk him several times a day.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
