BIO: Zip is a handsome 4 year old black and tan fellow who was surrendered to animal control because the big dog in the family was picking on him. He is at a good weight and in excellent health.
Zip walks well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood. He is very well housebroken and is allowed to hang out in the kitchen and living room while foster mom is at work. He hasn't had any accidents. At night he sleeps in a crate, but would prefer to sleep with his people. When he is alone Zip is quiet, but if he wants attention or to go out he will bark to let you know. He is an enthusiastic greeter!
Zip gets along with other dogs, but is mostly indifferent to them as long as they don't get too close to his dinner. Zip would do well as an only dog or with another low key dog. Given the choice, he would much rather be with his people or in his dog bed with a chew bone. He has not been around cats, but he can be introduced to some if you need to know how he does. Zip is afraid of loud noises and is startled by sudden movement, so he would not do well with small children. He is cautiously friendly with new people and would be happiest in a quiet home. Zip would do best in a dachshund savvy home where he will know that he is not the boss.
If you are looking for a polite and handsome young pal, Zip is your man!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
