Update, 11-18-14:

Hi out there this is Heidi checking in to give you an update on how I have been doing with my weight issue. I have lost another 5 lbs. and I am getting my girlie figure back as you can tell by my updated pictures. My Foster Mommy is really watching what I eat but she still thinks that I need to lose another 3 maybe 4 pounds and then I will look really slick. I am able to run around the yard now and get some exercise that I very badly needed. Which was not possible before because of all the weight that I had to carry around. I am able to play with the other dogs at my Foster Moms now which is lots of fun. But I also love to play with all the doggie toys. I would really like for my new forever home to have another dog and a fenced yard so that we can run around and play outside.

I am looking for my forever home, surely there is someone out there that is looking for a sweet, loveable furbaby to add to their family. I promise to give lots of doggie love and kisses. Please consider adopting me so that I will have my forever home before the holidays.

Heidi came from a TX hoarding situation and was in rescue down in TX for a year before they decided it was best to get  her into a breed specific rescue. Why she stayed unadoptable for a year we’ll never know. Heidi is sweet, loving and LOVES  to carry her toys around. Granted she is a little over-weight and when adopted that food will go with her to continue to help her get her slim and trim figure back. As she loses more and more weight she’s getting more active and will even play with the other dogs in the foster home.

Heidi is perfectly leash trained, housebroken and would be great with respectful children. Please give her a chance to find her forever home. The other little girl that came in with her has found hers now it’s Heidi’s turn, help her. If you need more info on Heidi and her sweet nature please contact her foster mom.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
