BIO:

Kate came to us from a breeder surrender in MO along with 8 other breeder dogs. She is still learning what it means to be a pet but is making great progress. We have taken her to a couple of events to help her with socialization. She gets along great with all dogs but we don’t know about cats. We do think it’s better if she doesn’t go to a home with children because she is still learning what this is all about.

Kate is learning to play with the other dogs, it’s great to see her tear around the yard or house. For that reason we really think she’d do better with a fenced in yard and another dog to play with and learn from.

She’s still trying to figure out the leash thing so please a fenced in yard would be best for this sweet girl. We aren’t saying that you won’t have to be patient with her but we do know that in time she’ll be a wonderful pet.

Also we think she may be younger that the eight years we have her listed at, since the breeders never give us ages we just have to guess by the condition of the teeth but that’s not always a good way to determine their ages.

Sadly, Kate did test positive for heartworms so she’ll have to stay till the middle of November to finish her treatment. She will come with 4 more months of Heartgard and will need to be re-tested Feb. 2015.

Thank you for thinking about giving Kate a forever home if approved you won’t regret making her a member of your family!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
