Dutchess is a beautiful black and tan longhair female who weighs about 11 pounds and is 2 years old. She was a backyard breeder dog and found herself left at the local shelter when neighbors complained of the noise.

Dutchess has a very sweet laid back personality. She loves the company of the other dogs as well as being around people. Dutchess would be great around children and would probably ignore a cat. She is crate trained and is working on being house broken.

Dutchess has been spayed and brought current with all vaccines. She has been heartworm tested and is on heartworm and flea prevention. Dutchess has also had her teeth cleaned.

If you can offer a forever home and would like a lifetime of unconditional love then consider adopting Dutchess. Please e-mail her foster parents at oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Dutchess. Preference will be given to North Carolina applicants but applications from South Carolina and Virginia will also be considered.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
