BIO:

Andy came from AR where he was gotten from a puppymill. We strongly believe that Andy didn’t have a good life before busting out of the puppymill and coming to rescue. Since he’s been here he’s learned to be a puppy, that’s right a puppy. Now at 7 yrs old he’s finally learning what he missed out on all these years. He loves to tug the doggie beds all over the house, he loves to carry toys and lovingly play with them. What a joy it is to see a dog his age, learn what it’s like to be a pet, a dog and a puppy.

Andy loves to be outside and run in the grass, he loves to run after the toys if you throw them and he’s even learning to play with the other dogs. All these things new to him in the last month and a half he’s been free.

Andy is a happy boy, always ready to greet you and the new day with a tail wag. He sadly lost quite a few teeth when he had his dental but that doesn’t stop him from enjoying his food, we just soften it with some warm water and he wolfs it right down.

He’s learned the doggie door and goes out when he needs too, if you do not have a doggie door then a schedule would work best for him. He loves praise and reward so the way to his heart is by telling him what a good boy he is and a small treat.

He has no problem going in a crate and is happy to go in one to eat or when the foster family goes away but he’s also fine being left out.

However you stack it Andy is just a great little boy and deserves the very best home we can find for him.  Look at that face and tell me you can say “no” to him. Email his foster mom for more details.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
