Update, 8-13-14:

Dutch has settled in to his Foster home quite well.  He loves to go bye bye and for walks.  He walks great on a leash!  He loves to play ball and run and chase toys.  Sometimes he likes to protect his toy and make you work to get it from him before you throw it again.  He is very smart and minds well and sometimes likes to sit up on his hind legs to get a chest rub.  Dutch really likes a good neck and chest rub, but if you remove his collar, he wants it right back on once you’re finished.

At night, he loves to sleep in the big bed and is a great little bed partner.  He wakes up happy with his tail wagging every morning!  When it is time to go potty, he prefers if you go outside with him.  Dutch really does not like to go outside alone.  He can also be trusted in the house when you are away and he is so happy to see you when you get home!  What a warm welcome when you walk through the door!

Overall Dutch is a sweet and loving lap dog in a calm environment.  He is not one to bark for just any reason.  If Dutch barks, you might want to pay attention.

Please contact his Foster Mom with any further questions.  He really is a great little boy!!

_______________

Hello!  Dutch is my name and I know it well!  I am very smart and loveable, but I will try to dominate so a dachshund savvy home is a must.  The family I was living with no longer trusted me anymore because I ran the house.  I would growl and or snap if things did not go my way.  Now that I am in my Foster home, my Foster Mommy makes me mind.  She does not let me get away with being trying to be the boss so I have to take my place as a regular pack member.  I still try to assert myself now and then, but I am happy just being in my place behind the pack leader and Foster Sisters.

Although I have alpha tendencies, I get along well with the other animals in the house and I warm up quickly to visitors.  Of course the usual barking and sniffing has to happen first, but then I will calm down and be fine.  I am not crazy about my crate, but my Foster Mommy gives me a kong filled with peanut butter to help me cope.

I am very photogenic in case you did not notice!  I like to show off my handsomeness in my pictures.  I really like to play ball and play with other dogs and I really enjoy being outside!  The kitties do not bother me a bit either.

Please, if you are a doxie savvy home and have no problem being my pack leader, consider adopting me!  Contact my Foster Mommy if you think I would fit well into your family.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
