Home of my own, fenced in back yard, comfortable bed to sleep in, endless food, water and treats, quiet surroundings, loving responsible family. Dox became a parent at the ripe old age of 15 months old. Puppies having puppies is bad enough but brother and sister mating should never have happened. By the time they got into rescue 8 weeks later Dox’s sister was already pregnant again.

Dox is a gorgeous 2-1/2 year old longhair sable tweenie weighing 12 pounds. The perfect home for Dox would be with someone who is retired, works at home or someone who is home frequently. Dox is no longer crated and has use of a doggie door 24/7. Dox is used to a home with many dogs or a home where they are only two. This quite and well behaved boy has only been around older children and should be in a cat free home. He is a great lap baby and loves to play with other Dachsies.

Dox is leash trained and although crate trained would not crate for long periods of time. Dox has been neutered and current with his vaccines. He has tested negative for heartworms and on heartworm and flea prevention.

Dox will be great a companion for some lucky family. If you can offer Dox the pampered life he deserves please e-mail his foster parents or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Dox. Preference will be given to North Carolina applicants but applications from South Carolina and Virginia will also be considered.Email foster home at: oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
