Name – Diesel Location - NC Adoption Fee - $225.00 Diesel was a backyard breeder puppy who luckily was never used as a breeder dog. He grew up outside in a breeder pen and wasn’t socialized with people at all. The only attention he received was when he was fed; he was basically ignored and left to do what ever he wanted. Diesel is a darling black & tan dapple who recently turned 8 months old and weighs 11 pounds. He will probably top out at around 13-14 pounds when he reaches adulthood. Diesel was very skittish of his new home and surroundings at first. It took him a few days to adjust to living inside a house and having people who wanted to hold him. Diesel is going to be one of those kids who is a perpetual puppy in looks and personality. He seems immature for his age but that is probably due to the fact that he grew up in a back yard and knew nothing else. Whenever Diesel sees an object or creature he doesn’t know he stops and gives a quick worried little woof to see if that scares it off. If it doesn’t he very hesitantly will move in to find out what it is. If it doesn’t bite back Diesel puffs up his chest as if he was a great hunter and just took down a lion. Diesel will be very shy at first only because he was never socialized, but he warms up quickly. He thrives on attention since being ignored most of his young life. He loves his foster siblings but does not care for a larger dog. Diesel should be placed in a home with another Dachsie that enjoys wrestling, running and tumbling, being 8 months old that’s all Diesel enjoys doing right now. Since growing up out doors being house broken is alien to Diesel. He is doing well with his training and it shouldn’t take him long if placed in a home that can keep him on a routine. He has started to use the doggie door on his own, which he learned to use within minutes. At night he will want to sleep in the bed with you snuggled really close in your arms. There are no cats in Diesel’s foster home but think he would get used to one. Diesel has a good temperament and feel he would do alright with younger children. Diesel is a healthy little boy who has recently been neutered and brought current on his vaccines. He is on heartworm and flea prevention. He is crate trained but does not like it. If you can offer endless playtime and would like a lifetime of unconditional love then consider adopting Diesel. Please e-mail his foster parents or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Diesel. Preference will be given to North Carolina applicants but applications from South Carolina and Virginia will also be considered. Email foster home at: oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
