UPDATED BIO:

I was adopted out and returned because my adoptive mom is going back to school and she didn't think it was fair for me to be alone for long hours at a time. I am now housebroken and leash trained. I have been with another female dachshund so a home with another dachshund is a must, along with a fenced in yard. Someone that is home a good bit is a plus. If you are interested, please reach out to my foster mom, Diane, to gather more info on me and decide if you want to make this my LAST forever home.

BIO:

Hi, my name is Haley Lou.  I was surrendered to AADR after my owner died and the family was unable to care for me. I have not been around many humans so I tend to be very shy and skittish until I am familiar with my surroundings. I have a lot to learn – I am learning to go in/out of the doggie door, trying to learn to play with my foster sisters and brother, and I need to learn how to bark. I sleep in a crate at night with my younger sister, Shelly (we like to cuddle in the blankets).

I get along with all small dogs (never seen a cat) and have NO food/fear aggressions.   I am learning to go outside through the doggie door and the yard is completely fenced in to keep me safe.   I need to learn how to cuddle on laps, nap on the back of the coach and snuggle under blankets with my doxie playmates.  I am working on learning to take walks on a leash and riding in the car.   My dream Forever Home would have another doxie/dog companion for me to chum around with.  I am young and need someone to motivate me.  If you are looking for the Special Doxie to add to your home, I am the one.  If you adopt me I will be your BEST friend forever and always be at your side. What more could you want?

More about Haley Lou....TN

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
